
Emel Aflak
Bio
Emel Aflak is a multidisciplinary art practitioner based in Damascus, Syria. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphics from the University of Damascus (2022).
He has extensive professional experience in graphic design and visual production, having worked as a Senior Graphic Designer for agencies in Damascus, Beirut, and Kuwait between 2018 and 2022. He also gained practical experience in artistic coordination by organizing and managing experimental art exhibitions and collective projects.
His early artistic practice focused on the hand-printing techniques he studied academically. His work has since evolved to incorporate contemporary media such as video art and interactive installation, while maintaining a core focus on material experimentation. His work explores the relationship between materials, memory, and identity within the context of societal transformations.
Among his notable projects are the "AID" series, which critiques the contradictions of humanitarian aid, and the interactive "Cross Fire" installation. His work has been exhibited in various locations, including Damascus, Old Aleppo and Berlin.
