Ammar Bamatraf is a photographer, documentary filmmaker, and visual storyteller with extensive experience in producing creative and humanitarian media for local and international organizations. His work lies at the intersection of culture, heritage, environment, and social development, with a strong focus on using visual media as a tool for documentation, awareness, and positive change.
Over the past years, Ammar has worked closely with international institutions, UN agencies, and civil society organizations, producing documentaries, short films, photographic stories, and multimedia content that highlight human-centered narratives and underrepresented voices. His productions are known for their authenticity, strong visual identity, and respectful engagement with local communities.
A significant part of Ammar’s work is dedicated to documenting and safeguarding the cultural and natural heritage of Yemen, particularly in Socotra Island and Aden. Through photography and film, he has captured traditional knowledge, intangible cultural heritage, local crafts, language, and the unique biodiversity of Socotra, contributing to wider efforts aimed at preservation and cultural sustainability. His work often combines artistic sensitivity with documentary accuracy, creating content that is both visually compelling and socially meaningful.
In addition to production, Ammar is actively involved in capacity building and the creative economy. He has designed and delivered training programs for youth and emerging creatives in photography, filmmaking, and content creation, helping to build local skills and strengthen creative ecosystems. He also contributes to the development of creative spaces and cultural hubs that serve as platforms for artists, storytellers, and cultural actors.
Ammar is the founder and director of Vision Art Studio, a creative production studio specializing in photography, video production, documentary filmmaking, design, and visual content development. Based between Yemen and Germany, Vision Art Studio works with NGOs, cultural institutions, and creative initiatives to deliver high-quality visual narratives aligned with international standards.
Through his work, Ammar Bamatraf continues to bridge local stories with global audiences, using visual media as a means to preserve memory, celebrate identity, and inspire dialogue across cultures.
